In 2017, Niki Ulehla, Filip Salata, Derek Phillips and Michael Hunter began work on an adaptation of the stories of the Polish writer Bruno Schulz. Schulz’s extraordinary and imaginative autobiographical writings take place in the lost Poland of his youth, seen through the eyes of a gifted and sensitive child narrator.
Our project brings together an actor, a puppet artist, and a sound designer to create a rich theatrical world that evokes Schulz’s stories — particularly those that concern his elusive and mercurial father.
We shared some of our work in a workshop production in May, and we’re continuing to develop this piece. Stay tuned!
